Strengthening Online Resilience among Students of SMA Negeri 6 Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, November 13, 2024 – To equip students with the skills needed to navigate the challenges of the digital world, the Directorate of Research and Community Service of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) organized an Online Resilience Strengthening program for selected representatives of 10th- to 12th-grade students of SMA Negeri 6 Yogyakarta. Held in the auditorium of SMA Negeri 6 Yogyakarta, the program featured Prof. Dr. Siti Irene Astuti Dwiningrum, M.Si., as the main speaker, accompanied by six university students who had received specialized training and served as tutors during the interactive sessions.
In her presentation, Prof. Irene emphasized that digital resilience is an essential skill that young people must develop to adapt to rapid technological and informational changes. She explained that students need the ability to think critically, evaluate information accurately, and avoid negative online impacts such as cyberbullying and misinformation. Strengthening this resilience is also expected to help students improve their digital literacy and use social media and the internet more responsibly.
As part of the interactive approach, the trained university students served as tutors during educational game sessions. One of the methods used was Edugame, a digital educational game designed to enhance students’ understanding of digital literacy in an engaging way. Through edugames, students were encouraged to identify credible information, understand internet ethics, and recognize the importance of protecting their online privacy.
The program also included a Play Card session, in which students participated in role-playing activities based on real digital challenge scenarios. Through this method, students were encouraged to think critically and make appropriate decisions in situations commonly encountered in the digital environment. This approach not only improved students’ understanding of digital resilience but also strengthened their communication and interpersonal skills.
Participants showed strong enthusiasm throughout the program. They gained new insights into how to use the internet responsibly and face digital challenges with greater confidence. The activity is expected to enhance students’ readiness to address digital issues, evaluate information critically, and avoid the spread of misinformation.
Through this Online Resilience Strengthening program, students of SMA Negeri 6 Yogyakarta are expected to become more prepared to navigate digital challenges with greater awareness and critical thinking. The involvement of university students as tutors also provided valuable experience in supporting digital education for younger generations. It is hoped that similar programs will continue to strengthen digital literacy and online resilience among students.
