Strengthening Online Resilience among Students of SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, November 12, 2024 – In response to the rapid development of the digital era, it is essential for students to develop resilience in addressing various challenges in the online environment. To support this effort, the Directorate of Research and Community Service, together with university students, organized an Online Resilience Strengthening program for 10th- to 12th-grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta. The program was held in the auditorium of SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta and was attended by students who showed strong enthusiasm in understanding the importance of digital literacy and resilience in internet use.
The program featured Prof. Dr. Siti Irene Astuti Dwiningrum, M.Si., as the main speaker, accompanied by university students who provided insights into the importance of digital resilience for the younger generation. In her presentation, Prof. Irene explained that in today’s information era, students must be able to think critically, evaluate the accuracy of information, and avoid negative online impacts such as misinformation and cyberbullying. She emphasized that digital resilience is not only about enduring challenges but also about the ability to adapt and grow in the digital environment.
In addition, the Directorate of Research team and university students delivered supplementary materials on digital literacy and strategies for addressing online threats. They emphasized the importance of using social media responsibly and protecting personal data from misuse by irresponsible parties.
Various interactive methods were used to make the learning process more engaging and effective. One of the approaches was Edugame, an educational game designed to enhance students’ digital literacy in an enjoyable way. Through edugames, students were encouraged to identify credible sources of information, understand internet ethics, and increase awareness of the importance of personal data security.
The Play Card session was also conducted, where students participated in role-playing activities based on real digital challenge scenarios. Through this method, students learned how to respond and make appropriate decisions in situations commonly encountered in the digital environment. This approach helped students strengthen their critical thinking skills and develop greater resilience in adapting to technological developments.
Participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm throughout the program. Many students reported that the materials presented were highly relevant to their daily lives. One 11th-grade student shared, “I now better understand how to use the internet and social media wisely. I have become more careful in receiving and sharing information.”
Through this Online Resilience Strengthening program, students of SMA Negeri 5 Yogyakarta are expected to become more informed, critical, and responsible internet users. The program also provided university students with opportunities to contribute to digital education for younger generations. It is hoped that similar initiatives will continue to strengthen digital literacy and online resilience among students.
