Building Resilience in the Digital Era: Strengthening Online Resilience among Students of SMA Negeri 2 Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, November 11, 2024 – The Directorate of Research and Community Service of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) organized an Online Resilience Strengthening program for 10th- and 11th-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Yogyakarta. Held in the 10th- and 11th-grade classrooms, the program aimed to equip students with the skills needed to face the challenges of the digital world. In the main session, Prof. Dr. Siti Irene Astuti Dwiningrum, M.Si., accompanied by Dr. Ariefa Efianingrum, M.Si., delivered a presentation on the importance of resilience in navigating the dynamics of the digital environment. She explained that resilience is not only about enduring challenges but also about the ability to adapt, think critically, and make appropriate decisions in an ever-changing digital landscape. In addition, strengthening resilience can contribute to improving students’ literacy and numeracy, which are essential for technology-based learning. To support students’ understanding, the program used two interactive methods. The first was Edugame, a digital educational game designed to enhance digital literacy in an engaging manner. Through edugames, students were encouraged to recognize credible information, understand internet ethics, and develop healthy digital habits.

The second method was Play Card, a role-playing activity presenting real-life digital scenarios, such as cyberbullying, misinformation, and online privacy protection. Through role-playing, students learned how to respond and make appropriate decisions in various digital situations. Students participated enthusiastically in the program. Many reported that the activity provided new insights into the importance of evaluating information and using social media responsibly. One 11th-grade student stated, “I used to accept news on social media without thinking much, but after this activity, I better understand the importance of verifying information before sharing it.”

Through this program, students are expected to become better prepared to navigate the challenges of the digital world with greater awareness and resilience. The initiative not only helps develop students’ technical skills in using technology but also strengthens their mindset in responding to the fast and dynamic flow of information.
