Strengthening Online Resilience for Students of SMA IT Abu Bakar

Yogyakarta, November 20, 2024 – The Directorate of Research and Community Service of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) organized an online resilience strengthening program for 10th-grade students of SMA IT Abu Bakar Yogyakarta. The activity took place in the 10th-grade classrooms, with male and female students participating in separate sessions. This program aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of resilience in facing the growing challenges of the digital world.
The activity featured Prof. Dr. Siti Irene Astuti Dwiningrum, M.Si., as the main speaker, accompanied by the team consisting of Dr. Ariefa Efianingrum, M.Si., Evi Rovikoh Indah Saputri, M.Pd., Amrih Setyo Raharjo, MPA., Fajar Sidik, MPA., and supported by university students as facilitators. In her presentation, she emphasized that resilience is essential not only for students but also for teachers in delivering instructional materials in schools. Resilience is necessary to respond to rapid changes in education and the challenges of digital-based learning. Strengthening resilience is expected to help students become more prepared to absorb learning, manage stress, and enhance their mental endurance against negative influences in the digital environment. This resilience strengthening initiative is also expected to contribute to addressing literacy and numeracy challenges among students.
As part of the program, students were introduced to various educational media designed to effectively instill the concept of online resilience. One of the media used was Edugame, an educational game designed to enhance digital literacy through engaging and innovative methods. Through edugames, students can better understand the importance of building digital literacy in an interactive and engaging way. Edugames are designed to encourage active learning without making students feel burdened when understanding increasingly complex digital literacy concepts.
In addition, students participated in a Play Card session, a role-playing activity designed to increase awareness of the importance of online resilience. In this activity, each individual within a group was assigned a specific role to perform seriously. Through role-playing in the Play Card session, students were able to better understand various scenarios they may encounter in the digital world, such as avoiding misinformation, protecting privacy, and responding to cyberbullying. This method aims to enhance interaction skills and understanding of others, helping students develop into more resilient individuals in the challenging digital environment.
The activity received positive responses from students, who reported feeling more confident and better prepared to face digital challenges after participating in the session. One participant stated that the program broadened their understanding of the importance of having strong mental resilience and using technology wisely.
Through this online resilience strengthening program, students are expected to be better equipped to navigate digital challenges wisely and resiliently. In addition, the program provides educators with insights into effective strategies for fostering resilience values within the school environment. It is hoped that similar initiatives will continue in the future to help develop a generation that is more resilient and capable of using technology in a positive and responsible manner.
